This month, it’s our Environment Services team’s time to shine! IU Energy and Hyde Park Electrical have been working together on the Theatre Royal car park, helping the local council to improve its usability and reduce energy costs.
IU Energy is an industry specialist when it comes to saving people money on their bills. From small domestic projects to huge commercial schemes across Plymouth and beyond, they’ve achieved significant savings for many happy customers.
IU Energy works closely with Hyde Park Electrical, one of Plymouth’s leading electrical installers. Their solid reputation in the local area puts them in the perfect position to assist IU Energy with their projects.
The Theatre Royal car park is a 12-storey building in the centre of the city. Plymouth City Council wanted to improve light quality within the building and decrease energy bills at the same time. Seemingly incongruous aims, unless you have the right team on hand.
Bob Maunder at IU Energy commented:
“We provide energy saving solutions and also best service and prices on business energy deals. We have a relationship with all the main suppliers and get preferential rates, which we pass on to our clients.”
IU Energy had specific LED lights manufactured for the project and also suggested the installation of microwave sensors to improve energy efficiency.
Hyde Park Electrical then stepped in to complete the project. The NICEIC-approved and CHAS-registered (both requirements for working on Plymouth City Council property) team met with IU Energy, Plymouth City Council reps, the head of electrical works and the car park’s manager to work out a schedule that avoided having to shut the entire car park.
A diligent team
Starting by sorting out a list of existing electrical issues, the team roused themselves at 5am each morning, closed off two floors at a time and perfected the installation method. They worked exceptionally hard to ensure inconvenience was at an absolute minimum and finished the project on time and on budget.
The public has noticed the result and people have commented on how the formerly dark, dingy building is now a bright, welcoming place to park. What’s more, the building’s energy costs have dropped by a massive 57.5%.
Dave Isherwood at Hyde Park Electrical said:
“All in all it was a successful installation. IU Energy use us because they know we just get on with the job. No fuss, no dramas, no supervision necessary and a project delivered on time and to cost.”
